   My opinion is HP or Compaq. Both brands are made by HP. I bought a compaq in September of 2006. I researched quite a bit, and for the price, and the quality, Compaq was it for me. I bought one with a dual core processor, and it is really fast. I can play DVD’s, to word processing in Microsoft office. Be aware, on most laptops, office is a trial version, and the trial runs out after about 90 days if I remember. Lot’s of trial gaming software, I removed it all. I provided a link to HP’s website, but would recommend using a retailer for the actual purchase. I used Best Buy. At least then you are dealing face to face with someone, and if you have a problem you can bring it in for them to help troubleshoot or fix if needed. I also recommend buying the extended warranty. You never know, and dropping your laptop once could cost enough to cover the cost of the extended warranty and then some.

   Also, check if you get a free update to Windows Vista. I think that should be part of all laptop PC packages right now…

   I would definitely go with a Hewlett Packard. They have good prices and their quality is top notch. I have owned an HP desktop, and I currently own a HP notebook. No major problems with either of them. I love my notebook! HP also has awesome customer service and support. Almost all products I buy for my computer are HP, they are that good! With an HP you can’t go wrong.
