You can get a notebook computer for as little as $500-600 if you shop around. This price would include rebates. (Tax not included)

    Specs include
    Intel Core Duo
    1024MB (1GB) of DDR2 RAM
    80GB+ Hard drive
    DVD/CD Writer(Burner)
    Wireless G
    15.4+ inch LCD
    Windows Vista

the HP Pavilion DV6205US is a pretty good laptop and it has all what you want. with $750 it’s in the lower price range. check also for the extended service plan (2 or 3 years) towards the bottom of the following web site. walmart offers these service plans for pretty cheap.

the guy above is too optimistic concerning the price. a laptop with those specs for around $600 can only be found on a black friday sale.

If you are looking for a Mac, then you can always get a refurbished iBook, which would get the job done as well. Just go here:

I reccomend the Dell E1405 or E1505 for the most part. The E1405 has a 14.1 inch screen and integrated graphics while the E1505 has a 15.4 ih screen and the ability to upgrade the graphics card. They start at $799 I think

ok so if you plan on gaming then Apple is automaticly out. Now you need to get a comp that has a Nvidia or Ati graphics card with atleast 128mb but the more the better.

you atleast need a Intel core duo or AMD Turion 64
atleast 512mb ram perferably 1gb of ram
    atleast 80gb of harddrive space
    atleast Nvidia 128mb perferably 256mb
and most computers come standard with a cd/dvd burner

now the price is where it gets tricky so ill just give you my specs so you have a rough idea even tho my comp is a year old

    Sony Vaio 1.73Ghz centrino mobile
    512mb ram, 80gb Harddrive
    Nvidia 128mb video card
    $1,800
