WHAT IS THE BEST LAPTOP BRAND OR IS THERE REALLY A DIFFERENCE?

I am seeking to buy a brand new laptop inside of a subsequent couple of days from Best Buy or Circuit City. we wish to know what laptops to equivocate as well as what laptops to demeanour for. we do not wish a Mac as well as we am only wanting a elementary laptop which is underneath $800. What have been a little of a must-haves per a specs?

I have a toshiba thats 4 years old works like a champ even after being dropped a few times. I fix and use Dells at work and I would never buy one myself.

I usually recommend Toshiba or Sony for Laptops.
    Budget go for HP.

check out http://www.salescircular.com/ for your state and see whats on sale.

Also spend as much as you can possibly afford as laptops are not very upgradeable other than memory. If getting Vista go for 2GB.

I’m working on a Dell that’s 1 month old with a broken screen not covered by Dell warranty so buy the Accidental Damage Protection with any laptop purchase.

First off, don’t look at bestbuy or circuitcity, you will be overcharged. I suggest http://www.newegg.com/. They sell great stuff at great prices. As for your needs, for normal computing like word docs, movies, and the net you should look for these things-
    -1.8Ghz(minimum) dual core
    -2GB RAM
    -160GB hard drive(unless it’s an SSD, then 64GB)
    Here is a good choice-

HP – top of the line
Compaq – is also made by HP I recommend either one.

Make sure you get AMD X2 X64 CPU 1.8 or better
    Or
Intel Dual core 64-bit CPU 1.8 or better

    Video Graphics
Avoid like the plague Intel Graphics
Get ATI or Nvidia (remember they share your base RAM (memory)

    RAM
    2GB as the min
    3 to 4GB is recommended

    LCD Panel
    Widescreen
Ultra Brite (all HP/Compaq has this feature)
Makes HD look more real in colors, brightness and contrast.
    15.4 is min
    17.4 or higher is good

    Drives
SATA II 7,200RPM – HDD 250GB or higher don’t get 160GB you’ll use that quick If can’t get the SATA II get the SATA but don’t get less than 7,200RPM even if you can get the 5,400RPM that’s okay. The faster the disc speeds the faster the performance will be accessing reading and writing data.

DVDRW Dual layer gives you 8.5GB
some have Lightscrib or some sort of feature to burn using a laser the text you want onto blank media DVD/CDs using the burner. Good to have, you might never use it.

    15-in-one media
    SD
    SD HC
    SONY Memory Stick
    CD
    etc..

You’ll need this along with USB 2.0 connectors 2 or more is okay.

    TV Tuner
Optional good to have you want to use your laptop as a TV recorder

    WebCam
Some models have this feature built-in on the LCD panel. Optional if you think you need get one that has it. Otherwise you’ll have to buy one and try to clip on to the screen. Not fun to do that way.

    Wireless Pointer or Remote Control
Again good feature to have, but will add expense making the laptop cost $900.

If you buy the laptop make sure you get 12-13 cell battery cost $99 or less see if you can get that worked in the deal at the store. If the clerks can’t help go see the store manager or head of that department. If the laptop doesn’t come with a case you’ll need one. Don’t want to get that new laptop scratched up already. The case might come with the unit ask the sale clerk.

Remember before you buy check out both stores and ask questions. If the clerk doesn’t know the answer don’t worry you got enough ammo here with you after reading this.

    OS
Vista is the norm now but don’t get Vista Basic, Vista Home Premium is okay Vista Ultimate is better though has everything you might need. But if you feel that you can do without it get the Vista Home Premium model.

One more thing you’ll need to buy a Laptop base fan cost $39 or less.
ANTEC makes them looks like a huge X. Why you need that well most newer laptops run so hot on your lap you might get hot on your knees or on your lap. Just pick one up.

Right now prices are so low you can get everything here for about the price you have aimed at.

    Good Luck!

PS one more thing most over look is getting external wireless keyboard/mouse combo. Laser Mouse and Vista Keyboard. Best one to get is Logitech LX710

    Look at it here:
