Check the specs for the program itself, it will list the minimum you need to run it, (including what version of Windows). Then make sure you exceed those minimums.
Try a Dell XPS or something like it. They have pretty good graphics and processing power.
Well I think you may need a “fastest” computer.
Check the Auto CAD 2008 system requirements and get something above that, Start with the core 2 duo (or even Extreme), 2GB of RAM, 160GB HDD.
The operating system depends on whether the CAD 2008 compatible with Vista or not.
Hope it helps

similar specs, but win vista home premium $ 1736 & 104 key keyboard
# although the autocad architecture 2008 site does not mention specifically about vista, my understanding is that vista home basic may not suffice & minimum is vista home premium … plz get that part confirmed
processor mentioned is pentium 4 / amd with 3 ghz or greater, my suggested processor t7200 far exceeds those !
ram: minimum mentioned is 3 gb
graphics: 128 mb
am pretty certain the 2 gb ram combined with 256 mb gpu should see you thro smoothly
** it is here that win xp comes into play & i’m sure will run smoother than vista
confirm configuration with autocad suport
else try their forums
there are systems with 4 gm ram, but then it sure crosses u’r 2500 budget by a long margin !
also, i doubt if win xp recognizes beyond 3.2 gb ram > plenty many reported cases
try dell.com. oh by the way to do have a subscription to cadelyst. if you do they always have computers that are great for cad. they also have the company and the price in there as well as the scores/specs/ and editors ratings on each machine.
