Well you will have no luck with HP and Dell for sure. Compaq and Acer would be your best bet. Mostly all laptops under $500 would only have Basic. But i found a couple for ya. You may have to hurry and buy them or the sale (if any sale) may be over soon. The third one is $524 but comes with a case and mouse. Good Luck!!

but the bitter truth is the ‘aero’ simply wont work on any single one of those $500 laptops

now most of those $500 laptops are bundled with vista home basic, whose requirements are lower than the vista home premium
few do come bundled with home premium, which i feel is rank bad practice, but then marketing follows few ethics

even if you start off with ‘aero’ enabled initially, your applications are going to also draw out some resources, dis-abling the aero pretty soon
