I saw some good name brand laptops on EBay for under 400 bucks.

Check Dell’s site. They’re pretty decently priced when it comes to notebooks. Just remember that you get exactly what you pay for. No special deals, but also not too many ripoffs.

Also, some students at MIT created $100 laptops. They’re not great at all, they’re laptops, and they only cost $100.

    Yea,….ebay or Fryes Electronics.

I built mine from parts bought at Fryes.

    cheap.

((((((((Also depends on what you are going to use it for))))))))

I would hate 4u to buy one thing and it turns out you are a graphics artist or game maker, then you have to spend hundreds more for a different video card and different type memory cards.

    Ya Know??????????

Be careful of ebay… there is alot of fraud there and you have to make sure the seller is genuine (check their feedback rating and see what kind of negative/neutral feedback they have).

    Check out http://www.dellauction.com

There are alot of cheap, refurbished notebooks there. Currently there is a Dell laptop Latitude 2.0 Ghz with 512 M ram (make sure you have at least 512 Mb ram so you don’t have memory problems with software) with latest bid at $380.02:

Also Dell WinXP Latitude 1.8 Ghz, 512 M ram going for $279.99:

Cheapest one is a Dell Inspiron with 1.8 Ghz and 128 m ram (kind of low for memory) and 20 gb hard drive, latest bid is $29.00 (but sure to go up since auction ends on July 7):
