Hi, we wish to buy an Ultraportable Notebook Personal Computer from Sony. There have been dual options – VAIO TX or VAIO S series. Which a single should we buy…? as well as Why?

The one that has better features.
Honestly, with laptops it’s usually 6 of one, half dozen of the other. If ya look inside most laptops, you’ll find the same components. The rest is just brand name recognition. I’d decide on what features yer looking for, then find the least expensive unit with em. (Acer is a reliable make, and usually quite a bit cheaper.)
Dell used to be at the top of the food chain as far as Windows laptops, but they have resorted to the cheapest non-namebrand parts to beat the other guys on pricing and that has hurt their reliability and durability. Their support has become one of the worst since they have outsourced it to India. For that matter, so has almost every other laptop maker out there that has outsourced their support. HP/Compaq computers have always been junk, neither company has ever made a reliable desktop or laptop computer.
The fact of the matter is that there are about 6 companies in the world that manufacture laptops and it’s up to the branding company to enforce their own standards of quality. IBM was the only company that made its own laptops (and Apple laptops), and it has sold that piece of their business. Everyone else shares product stock from the other 5 companies. Because of this every company that puts their name on a laptop WILL have problems with some models.
Check consumerreports.com, computers.com, and several other places for actual user reviews and buy based upon whether there are any show-stopping negatives and whether the positives outweigh them. Sure, buy one with the features you want, but for the most part 90% of laptops on the market will fill 90% of users needs. Let the early adopters figure out what’s wrong with them and what features are truly indispensable. Buy for reliability and quality of technical support.
